Toronto police are searching for three armed men who forced their way into a mansion in the Bridle Path neighborhood at about 3:40 a.m. local time Thursday and attacked the family inside, authorities said. The masked suspects entered through a back entrance of the five-bedroom home carrying guns and a hammer, then confronted the residents on the second floor.

The home belongs to David Morton, 75, CEO of the MAC Group, who was there with his wife, Doriana Morton, 64, and their two adult daughters, Maggie and Cristina. Police said David Morton and his daughters, ages 28 and 26, tried to fight off the intruders when shots were fired, and all three were wounded.

What police and family said

Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith told reporters that the intruders demanded valuables from the home, adding that it is uncertain whether they took anything. In a statement Friday, David Morton said all four family members were also attacked with the hammer, and that he and his two daughters were still hospitalized with gunshot wounds. He did not give details on their conditions.

The three suspects, believed to be in their 20s and wearing dark clothing, fled in an SUV, police said.
