Bodum USA is recalling 5.9 million French press coffee makers after warnings that the glass carafe can break and cause burn injuries, according to a notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The company has received 70 reports of glass carafes breaking, and 48 of those cases resulted in burns.
The French presses were sold on Amazon.com, at retailers including Target and Walmart, and at other stores between 1974 and October 2026. The recall number is 27-055.
Which models are affected
The recall covers a range of Bodum USA models, including 8-cup French presses and 12-cup Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya models, the agency said.
According to the agency, the carafes can break unexpectedly if they are damaged or cracked, which can happen when customers stir coffee with metal spoons.
Advice for customers
Safety regulators said owners of the recalled French presses should not use metal utensils to stir coffee and should avoid using carafes that are cracked or damaged. Customers can contact Bodum to receive a plastic stirring spoon.
