Jamie Carragher and Wayne Rooney have criticised Lisandro Martinez after the Manchester United defender launched a post-match attack on the club's hierarchy following Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid. Martinez, who is out of contract at the end of the season, said he expected more from 'upstairs' and singled out technical director Jason Wilcox over the lack of summer investment.
The defeat in Madrid extended United's winless run to five games and increased pressure on manager Michael Carrick.
Carragher calls outburst awful
Speaking to CBS Sports, Carragher said Martinez's comments do 'nobody any good at all' and predicted they would dominate coverage for days. He added that while United fans might enjoy the criticism of the club's leadership, he found it awful, especially given Martinez's own 'really poor' start to the season.
Carragher also disputed Martinez's claim that last season was fantastic, noting that a manager was sacked and that United finished third partly because Liverpool and Chelsea were poor.
It doesn't do anybody any good at all, and they will be the story now for the next few days all about this.

Rooney says defender went too far
Rooney told Amazon Prime that Martinez had 'maybe gone a bit too far' and that such matters should stay internal. He said the defender's performances have not been good enough and that the interview was disrespectful to his team-mates because it suggested the squad is not good enough.
Rooney added that only captain Bruno Fernandes has any right to speak out in that way, and even then it should be behind closed doors.
