CNBC's Jim Cramer said Friday that investors looking to diversify away from the struggling artificial intelligence trade should consider consumer staples stocks. He made the comments after the Nasdaq-100, which tracks the biggest tech stocks, ended October down almost 7%.
Cramer, host of "Mad Money," said money moved into more defensive parts of the market during the month. The S&P 500 Equal Weight gained roughly 5% in October, and the consumer staples index surged 11.4%, making it the second-best performing sector behind energy.
Cramer's view on staples
Cramer said investors should follow where the market is currently leading them. He said that until some of the tech sector's issues are sorted out, other groups might be better bets for the time being.
He highlighted four companies in consumer staples that he finds particularly attractive. The sector includes companies with household brand names that people tend to buy regardless of market conditions or the economic environment.
I like the idea of camping out in the staples for a bit.
