Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, CEO says
Masad said the decision was made for a number of different reasons, including cost. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, but there was never any indication that it was no longer with Anthropic.
Key points
- Replit CEO Amjad Masad said Thursday at TechCrunch Disrupt that Replit no longer works with Anthropic.
- Masad cited cost, partnership and performance, saying ChatGPT is better now.
- People familiar with the partnership said it was still in place, and Replit posts cited Anthropic models in late September.
Replit, the AI coding platform popular with startup founders and developers, is no longer working with Anthropic, CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said Thursday onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt.
Masad said the decision was made for several reasons, including cost. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, but there had been no indication it was no longer with Anthropic.
Why Masad cited the change
Masad said Replit uses an internal benchmark to assess metrics such as performance. He said the company also publishes a public benchmark, and that Sol and Astra consistently perform better at building vibe-coded applications from scratch.
He said the choice rested on cost, partnership and performance, and that Replit felt Anthropic's replacement was a better partner for now.

Dispute over the partnership
Masad's comments were rejected by insiders familiar with the Anthropic-Replit partnership. One person, who asked not to be named, said the partnership was still in place.
Replit's website, blog posts and social media posts show it was using Anthropic products as recently as a few weeks ago. A late September blog post cites Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as models running in Replit Agent's production environment, and around the same time a Replit product employee posted on X about using Anthropic's flagship model Opus 5.5.
TechCrunch said it reached back out to Replit for clarification and will update the story if it hears back.
Growth and AI safety
Masad also discussed Replit's growth at Disrupt, saying enterprise is starting to provide a larger slice of revenue. He said enterprise was about 2% of revenue last year and about 15% this year, with more than 50% of revenue coming from B2B.
On AI safety, Masad said agents need a habitat to exist and do good work, comparing it to the environment humans need. He said that habitat includes good orchestration, error recovery, safety and security, sandboxing, networking, and identity and authorization.
