Anthropic Unveils Predictive Intelligence for SI Agents

Anthropic announced a new research direction called Predictive Intelligence, aimed at systems that anticipate future needs instead of waiting for user requests. Early prototypes cut explicit queries by about 30 percent on multi-day enterprise workflows.

Key points

  • Anthropic introduced Predictive Intelligence, or PI, on Thursday as a new research direction.
  • PI agents maintain an ongoing picture of likely future needs from seconds to months.
  • Internal tests showed roughly 30 percent fewer explicit user queries on multi-day enterprise workflows.

Anthropic announced on Thursday a new research direction it is calling Predictive Intelligence, or PI, aimed at systems that continuously anticipate future needs rather than waiting for a user to make a request.

The company described PI agents as models that maintain and update an ongoing picture of what a person, workflow, or environment is likely to require, on timescales ranging from seconds to months. The stated goal is to reduce the number of moments in which someone has to initiate a query at all.

Reactive Assistants and the PI Goal

“Most assistants today are still fundamentally reactive,” said Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s chief executive. “Predictive Intelligence is an attempt to build systems that live in a constant state of ‘what comes next’ and surface the right action or information before it is asked for.”

Initial work is focused on Anthropic’s enterprise assistant products. The company said the systems would draw on long-context modeling and agentic capabilities already under development, with the intention of preparing drafts, retrieving relevant context, or flagging upcoming tasks ahead of explicit user input.

Early Results and Testing

Anthropic shared limited early results but stopped short of releasing full technical papers or a fixed product roadmap. In internal evaluations the company described, PI prototypes reduced the number of explicit user queries by roughly 30 percent on a set of multi-day enterprise workflows while keeping error rates comparable to standard Claude agents.

Researchers said the systems combine long-horizon reasoning with a continuously updated internal state that forecasts likely next actions several steps ahead, then surfaces only those predictions that cross a confidence threshold. The approach is being tested as an optional layer inside Anthropic’s enterprise tools rather than as a standalone product.

Open Questions and Rollout

The company noted that questions around false positives, user overrides, and the risk of the system acting on incorrect forecasts are still under active study and will shape how widely the capability is rolled out.
