Apple’s new Find My-compatible remote will also work with your old Apple TV
You don't need to buy the new Apple TV 4K just to get the updated Siri Remote with Find My and a built-in speaker, as it works with every model released going back to the Apple TV HD and is available to buy standalone for $59. Previous Siri Remotes had a basic iOS feature to help you find your misplaced remote, but this is better, with one notable catch. Now the remote has Find My support, but if you want to see…
Key points
- Apple's new Siri Remote works with every Apple TV model back to the Apple TV HD.
- It costs $59 standalone and adds Find My support and a built-in speaker.
- Precise distance tracking needs an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or later.
Apple's updated Siri Remote, which adds Find My support and a built-in speaker, can be bought on its own for $59 and works with every Apple TV model going back to the Apple TV HD. That means buyers do not need to purchase the new Apple TV 4K to get the remote.
The remote starts shipping on November 13th, the same date as the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K.
Precision Finding limits
Find My support is available on the Siri Remote from the second generation onward. Precision Finding, which shows how far away the remote is, works on the Siri Remote (4th generation) paired with an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air or any iPhone 17 or later, excluding the iPhone 17e, running the latest iOS software.
Those models are the only ones with Apple's new N1 networking chip, which supports Bluetooth channel sounding for AirTag-like precision tracking without a UWB chip. Availability varies by region.
Find My support is available on the Siri Remote (2nd generation and later).

What the new remote adds
According to Stephen Robles in a post on Threads, the remote's backward compatibility means only a couple of features are limited to the new Apple TV 4K, including its built-in mic and surround sound with paired HomePod speakers.
Earlier Siri Remotes had a basic iOS feature to help find a misplaced remote, but the article describes the new Find My support as better.
