Key points

  • Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey will miss eight to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.
  • Caldentey was hurt in Arsenal's 4-2 defeat at Manchester City on 4 October.
  • Arsenal sit 10th in the WSL and also have Chloe Kelly and Selina Cerci out.

Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey is expected to miss about two months of Women's Super League action because of a hamstring injury. The Spain international suffered the injury during Arsenal's 4-2 defeat at Manchester City on 4 October.

Caldentey has been a key player for Arsenal since joining from Barcelona two years ago and was the 2024-25 WSL Player of the Year.

What the manager said

Arsenal manager Renee Slegers said Caldentey did not travel with Spain after the Manchester City match. Slegers said the injury is a bigger hamstring injury and the current estimate is between eight and 10 weeks.

Slegers added that Caldentey is being re-scanned and the healing process looks good. She said the club hopes for less time out but repeated that it is a bigger hamstring injury.

It's a bigger hamstring injury. The estimation right now is between eight to 10 weeks.

Impact on Arsenal

Caldentey's absence is a blow to Arsenal, who return to WSL action on Saturday when they host Birmingham City at 12:45 BST. The Gunners have won just one of their opening five WSL matches and sit 10th in the table, leading to questions over Slegers' position.

Arsenal will also be without injured England forward Chloe Kelly and German summer signing Selina Cerci on Saturday. Slegers said Cerci had surgery on her knee after the problem got worse and that she is out for a while as well.
