Key points
- ASML reported third-quarter profit that beat expectations and said customers are interested in orders for 2029 and 2030.
- CEO Christophe Fouquet said planned supply for 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand.
- ASML raised its 2026 sales forecast and expects fourth-quarter net sales of 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion euros.
ASML said Wednesday that some customers are expressing interest in placing orders for its semiconductor tools for 2029 and 2030, as the company reported third-quarter profit that beat expectations. The Dutch firm is the only producer of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines, which are used by companies such as TSMC to make the most advanced semiconductors.
CEO Christophe Fouquet said in a press release that customers continue to increase their short- and medium-term equipment demand forecasts, driven mainly by their views on the size and duration of AI-related investments. He added that some customers are now interested in orders for 2029 and even 2030.
Supply and guidance updates
Fouquet said ASML's current planned supply for 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand. The company is investigating ways to increase capacity for 2028 beyond the 30% increase it had previously forecast.
ASML has updated its guidance three times this year. It now expects 2026 net sales of between 44 billion euros and 45 billion euros, up from a previous lower end of 43 billion euros. For the fourth quarter, it forecasts net sales of 14.2 billion euros to 15.2 billion euros, with the upper end above LSEG consensus estimates of 14.2 billion euros.
In light of their demand visibility, some customers are expressing an interest in placing orders with us for 2029 and even 2030.
— Christophe Fouquet
China and market reaction
ASML said it expects China to account for 20% of its total business, sticking to a prior forecast. The company is restricted from selling EUV and some DUV tools to China.
During the quarter, Samsung and TSMC committed to using ASML's High NA EUV lithography machines. ASML's stock was around 2% higher in early European trade and has rallied 56% this year.
