Facebook is giving users more control over their algorithm
Meta announced the launch of its new AI-powered feature, “Your Algorithm,” a feature it first launched on Instagram.
Key points
- Meta launched 'Your Algorithm' on Facebook on Tuesday, letting users describe feed preferences in natural language.
- The feature, first launched on Instagram, adjusts Feed and Reels recommendations in real time.
- Facebook's three-dot menu now offers 'Your Algorithm' and 'Interested'/'Not interested' options on individual posts.
Meta announced on Tuesday the launch of 'Your Algorithm' on Facebook, a new AI-powered feature that gives users more control over the content they see in Feed and Reels. The tool allows users to describe their preferences in their own words using natural language, rather than relying entirely on automated recommendations.
The feature was first launched on Instagram. According to Meta, it is designed to make content recommendations more relevant and lets users interact with the algorithms that rank and recommend posts, with changes reflected in real time.
How the feature works
Users can communicate directly with the platform about the topics and content they want to see more or less frequently. Meta says the platform may ask follow-up questions to better understand what users liked or disliked, allowing them to provide more detailed feedback.
Facebook has also updated its three-dot menu, making it easier to manage content preferences directly from individual posts. By opening the menu, users can access 'Your Algorithm' or select the 'Interested' and 'Not interested' options to indicate whether particular content aligns with their preferences.

Broader personalization efforts
The launch builds on Meta's existing personalization efforts across its other platforms. Instagram introduced Your Algorithm in June, extending customization options across Feed and Explore after first launching the feature for Reels in December 2025.
Threads also introduced its own related feature, called 'Dear Algo,' which allows users to influence the content recommended to them. The introduction of 'Your Algorithm' reflects Meta's broader effort to give people more influence over their social media experiences as AI increasingly shapes content discovery.
