Getafe make offer to sign free agent Sancho

Getafe make a formal offer to sign attacker Jadon Sancho, who is searching for a new club after leaving Manchester United in the summer.

Key points

  • Getafe have made a formal offer to sign free agent Jadon Sancho.
  • Sancho, 26, is without a club after his Manchester United contract expired in the summer.
  • Getafe are 14th in La Liga and playing in the Europa Conference League this season.

Getafe have made a formal offer to sign free agent winger Jadon Sancho, the Spanish club's latest move to strengthen its squad. The 26-year-old is without a club after his Manchester United contract expired in the summer.

Getafe sit 14th in La Liga and are competing in the Europa Conference League this season. The club is keen to find a resolution, though a deal is described as complicated.

Sancho's situation

Sancho cost United £73m when he joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. He is said to favour a move away from England but remains open to all options.

He spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances as the club achieved Champions League qualification and won the Europa League. He came on as a late substitute in the victory over Freiburg, his third European final in three seasons.

Sancho also had loan spells with Dortmund and Chelsea during his five years at United. His 2024-25 move to Stamford Bridge included an obligation to buy, but Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to send him back to Old Trafford after 41 appearances.

Getafe's recent signing

Earlier this week, former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal joined Getafe on a free transfer. The 34-year-old Spain right-back had been without a club since his Bernabeu deal expired in June.

Carvajal won 27 trophies with Madrid, including six Champions League titles, and has signed a contract until June 2027.

Training and speculation

Sancho has been posting training videos to his Instagram account while searching for a new team. This included a visit to non-league side Flixton, who had to clarify that the former England international was not on trial with the North West Counties club.
