Pep Guardiola returned to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday as Manchester City played their first home match since being found guilty of financial irregularities. The former City boss, wearing a flat cap, watched from the directors' box as his old side lost 4-2 to PSG.
City were found guilty last month of more than 100 charges of breaching Premier League regulations. The club deny wrongdoing and have lodged an appeal. Guardiola, who stepped down in the summer after a 10-year spell in which he won 20 trophies, had said he would stand by the club after the verdict.
A show of support
It was Guardiola's first return to the stadium, where a stand is now named after him, since he left at the end of last season. He has remained connected to City as a global ambassador.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and chief executive Ferran Soriano were also in attendance. Guardiola reportedly held talks with both earlier in the day as City sought to present a united front.
I didn't see him yet, probably he's going to come now.
— Enzo Maresca
What Maresca said
City boss Enzo Maresca was asked after the match about Guardiola's presence. He said the last time he spoke with Guardiola was after the Manchester United game and that they had not spoken since.
Maresca added that he had not seen Guardiola yet and that he would probably come now, but that they had not been able to speak.
