Man Utd held by Leeds as winless run continues

Manchester United delivered a more cohesive performance in a changed formation but were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds as pressure on Michael Carrick continues to grow.

Key points

  • Manchester United drew 1-1 with Leeds at Elland Road, leaving them with one league win from seven.
  • Youri Tielemans opened the scoring for United before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised from a corner.
  • Jamie Carragher said going to Leeds and performing as United did was a decent result in isolation.

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds at Elland Road, extending a winless league run that has increased pressure on manager Michael Carrick. United have one Premier League win from seven games and none since August.

United played much of the match without a recognised striker in a changed formation, giving Youri Tielemans a more attacking role. He combined with Bryan Mbeumo to score in the first half.

Leeds fight back

Carrick's side faded as the game went on and were outrun again, eventually conceding to an instinctive Dominic Calvert-Lewin strike from a poorly defended corner. The week had also included a defeat to Atletico Madrid and an explosive interview from Lisandro Martinez, who started at Elland Road.

Calvert-Lewin said Leeds could have shown more quality in the final third, particularly in the first half, and that they were "unlucky not to win the game."

Pressure on Carrick

Jamie Carragher said that, in isolation, going to Leeds and performing how United did was a decent result. The display showed more intent than last week's drab draw with Spurs at Old Trafford, where disgruntled fans booed the team off.

Carrick will know the return of one league win from seven is not good enough to dispel unwanted talk of pressure on his position.
