Netanyahu tells Trump "we have a job to finish" on Iran

Russia's foreign minister is visiting Tehran for the first time since the U.S. and Israel launched their war with Iran.

Key points

  • Iran's security council secretary Mohsen Rezaei met Russia's Sergey Lavrov in Tehran on Monday to discuss closer cooperation.
  • Lavrov condemned U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran as illegal during his first visit since the war began.
  • Iran summoned Germany's ambassador over accusations, after Germany summoned Iran's envoy in Berlin.

Iran's top security official, Gen. Mohsen Rezaei, called for stronger cooperation with Russia to bolster regional security after meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran on Monday, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said the cooperation could include joint economic projects, such as completing transportation corridors. Lavrov condemned U.S.-Israeli military attacks on Iran as illegal during his first visit to Iran since the U.S. launched its war with Iran almost eight months ago.

Diplomatic tensions with Germany

Also in Tehran on Monday, Iran summoned Germany's ambassador over what it called baseless accusations, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said. Germany had summoned Iran's ambassador in Berlin the same day after a court sentenced two men with ties to Iran's intelligence service for plotting to kill the leader of a Jewish organization in Germany.
