BBC football pundit Troy Deeney has named his Premier League team of the week after the latest round of matches, in a selection published on 12 October 2026. The picks cover players from Crystal Palace, Brighton, Leeds, Coventry, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, plus one manager.
Deeney credited several players with decisive moments in their teams' results, including saves, blocks and goals.
Players who stood out
Crystal Palace contributed two players. Deeney said Walter Benitez's save from Liam Delap's effort, when the ball was smashed into his face, was the turning point in Palace's win. He also picked Jefferson Lerma, a centre-midfielder playing at centre-back, who scored and made big tackles.
From Coventry, Deeney selected Ethan Pinnock and Matt Grimes. He admitted he had doubted Pinnock's move from Brentford but said the defender has been excellent and Coventry have improved week by week. Grimes, he said, proved against Newcastle that he can make the step up.
Other picks included Brighton's Ferdi Kadioglu for a massive block, Leeds' James Justin for an unbelievable goal and his versatility, and Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiori, whom Deeney called Arsenal's best forward at the moment.
He's just the best football player to watch in world football, isn't he?

Manager and attacking choices
Deeney chose Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro from Chelsea. He noted Henderson scored two goals and a free-kick, and said Joao Pedro will have the season of his life with Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer behind him.
Manchester City provided Rayan Cherki, whom Deeney called the best football player to watch in world football, and Jeremy Doku, who he said changed the game with a goal and assist after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off.
Deeney picked Enzo Maresca as manager of the week, saying he got the job done at Anfield and made a tactical change by bringing on Doku.
