Amazon’s AI shopping assistant can now edit your grocery lists and gift registries

Amazon is adding several new features to its AI shopping assistant, including ways to create, edit, and move items between shopping lists and gift registries. As an example, Amazon says you can now ask Alexa for Shopping to "Create a new shopping list" or "Show me what's left on my wedding registry." The ecommerce giant has continued to expand on its Alexa for Shopping assistant since its official launch in May…

Key points

  • Amazon's Alexa for Shopping can now create, edit, and move items between shopping lists and gift registries.
  • The assistant can also update delivery instructions, answer billing questions and pause or change recurring deliveries.
  • The new features are rolling out to customers in the US.

Amazon is expanding its AI shopping assistant, Alexa for Shopping, with new tools for managing shopping lists and gift registries. Customers can now ask the assistant to create a new list or show what remains on a registry, and to move items between lists and registries.

The assistant sits next to the search bar across Amazon's app and website. It already handles tasks such as setting price alerts, comparing products and buying items automatically when prices fall below a set level.

More tasks for the assistant

Beyond lists and registries, Alexa for Shopping can now update delivery instructions and answer billing questions about unrecognized charges and refunds. It can also pause and change recurring deliveries.

Rollout and competition

The new features are rolling out to customers in the US. Amazon has kept expanding the assistant since its official launch in May while resisting third-party AI shopping agents from companies such as Meta and Perplexity.
