It’s hard to imagine wireless headphones ever getting lighter than these

If you're on the hunt for lightweight wireless headphones but wearing earbuds or clip-ons never feels comfortable or secure, a relatively obscure Japanese headphone maker could have the solution. Final's new Porta headphones feature an on-ear design supported by a headband but with a structure made from a single piece of wire so they weigh just 40 grams. For comparison, Marshall's recently-launched Milton A.N.C. are…

Key points

  • Final's Porta on-ear headphones weigh 40 grams, far less than Marshall's 200-gram Milton A.N.C.
  • The Porta cost 12,800 yen (around $80) and are set to ship from October 23rd.
  • They offer eight hours of battery life, Bluetooth 5.4 and an IPX4 rating but no noise cancelation.

Japanese headphone maker Final has announced the Porta, an on-ear wireless headphone built from a single piece of wire that weighs just 40 grams. The company is taking preorders through its online store at 12,800 yen, around $80, with black or orange ear pads and shipping expected to begin on October 23rd.

For comparison, the article notes that Marshall's recently launched Milton A.N.C. are also small on-ear headphones but weigh 200 grams. Final also runs an Amazon shop for US customers, but the Porta are not listed there yet.

Basic features and battery

The Porta pair wirelessly over Bluetooth 5.4 and stream audio using the SBC and AAC codecs. A 57mAh battery charges over USB-C and provides up to eight hours of use.

The design looks loosely inspired by the lightweight headphones Sony bundled with its Walkmans decades ago, and the functionality is described as unsurprisingly basic.

No noise cancelation

There is no active noise cancelation, which the article says is not uncommon for on-ear headphones that do not create a full seal. The Porta carry an IPX4 rating, so they should withstand rain or sweat without moisture damage.
