Donald Trump held a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday to support Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers ahead of the midterm elections. During the event, Trump repeated his recent comments about the rear end of Republican Ohio senator Jon Husted and also complimented rapper Nicki Minaj's behind, who was present at the rally.

Trump said the media attention to his earlier remarks was "fake news" and insisted his comments were "in fun." He explained that he had been examining Husted after learning the senator was a college athlete. The Michigan Senate race between Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed remains neck and neck as both parties seek control of Congress.

Comments on Husted and Minaj

Trump told the crowd that he had looked at Husted "up and down" and studied him after discovering his athletic background. He said his remark about Husted's rear end was made in jest, adding that he had never done such a thing with a man before.

Trump then called out Minaj, who according to the New York Post was wearing "head-to-toe Gucci" and was seen walking with Trump after leaving Air Force One. He said, "I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before – Nicki Minaj," prompting cheers from the crowd. He added that he hoped Minaj wasn't insulted and that "we love Nicki."

Trade and political context

Trump also addressed the US-Canada trade war, saying that Canada has been "ripping off the US for years" and that tariffs were necessary. He stated that the issue would be "settled pretty soon" and that Canada was "willing to give us anything at this moment."

The rally took place amid criticism of Trump's language style. On Saturday, former president Barack Obama joked at a rally for El-Sayed that Trump's White House renovation efforts made it look like "Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory." The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about why Trump has been discussing others' bodies.
