Google has launched its experimental AI app Dreambeans in India, the first market outside the U.S. for the app, which creates personalized illustrated stories from users' digital activity. The app is available on Android and iOS with support for 13 local languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali, alongside English. The India launch comes less than two months after Google opened the app to all eligible U.S. users aged 18 and older.
Dreambeans was introduced in June and draws on connected Google services such as Calendar, Gemini, Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube to generate stories without requiring a prompt. Google recently added a feature that uses its Veo video-generation model to animate images in select stories.
Why India came first
Google product manager Gozde Oznur said during a press briefing that India was chosen because of strong interest from Indian users and the widespread use of Google's services there. She said the country stood out for its high overlap of users across Gemini, Gmail and Google Photos.

Download numbers and limits
Dreambeans has recorded nearly 55,000 downloads in the U.S. since its June debut, according to estimates from Sensor Tower shared with TechCrunch. About 63% came in September, and downloads dropped 84% month over month to about 5,500 in October.
Users can select only one language at a time for their stories, and the app cannot currently generate stories that mix languages, Oznur said. Users can choose which Google services to connect, disconnect them at any time and delete their Dreambeans data, she said. The app is available only to personal Gmail account holders, and generated stories are visible only to the account holder.
